Let's Begin
Gather Materials
Construction paper
Scissors
Tape
Large baking sheet or other flat surface
Yarn
Marker
Step 1
Start by cutting some construction paper into strips.
Step 2
Write a series of numbers in order on the middle of each construction paper strip.
Step 3
Next, tape each end of the construction paper pieces to the baking sheet so that the strips form a “tunnel” shape. Scatter the numbers out-of-order around the sheet.
Step 4
Now, have your child take one piece of the yarn and thread it through the “tunnels” in order of the numbers lowest to highest. For example if your “tunnels” are labeled 1-5, your child will thread through number one first, then two, then three, and so on
CDC Milestones
Curious about your child’s development? All children develop at their own pace, but the Center for Disease Control’s developmental milestones can be a helpful guideline. Here are a few examples:
1-year-old
- Shows fear in some situations
- Puts things in a container, takes things out of a container
- Looks at the right picture or thing when it’s named
18-months-old
- Explores alone but with parent close by
- Can follow 1-step verbal commands without any gestures
- Drinks from a cup
2-years-old
- Shows more and more independence
- Knows names of familiar people and body parts
- Might use one hand more than the other
